The utilization of the quarry dust (generated during the cutting of dimension tuff stones) for removing Cr3+ by selective ion exchange has been proposed. Chromium content and quarry dust after ion exchange in static condition is in the range of the values obtained by column operations using the same tuff in granular form. The use of a cement matrix for stabilizing the exhausted material bas been also suggested. Blends with Portland cement having high proportions of exhausted quarry dust have very satisfactory leaching characteristics and mechanical properties and are of interest for applications in the field of building materials. When compared with portland-pozzolana cements, Portland-exhausted tuff blends, having quarry dust concentrations equal to those of pozzolana, show higher mechanical strength, owing to the better pozzolanic behaviour of zeolitic tuff
