Abstract

First survey on the tradition of De dictis et factis Alfonsi regis by Panormita. Antonio Beccadelli, known as Panormita, was one of the chief protagonists in the making of the Monarchical Humanism at the Neapolitan court of Alfonso the Magnanimous (1442-1458). His most ideologically relevant work is certainly the De dictis et factis Alfonsi regis, in four books completed in 1455. At the crossroads between historiography and biography, panegyric and ethical-political speculum, collection of short tales and facetiae, it has extraordinarily contributed to shaping the image of Alfonso, virtuous king and true heir of the ancient emperors. The paper offers a first overview of the tradition (manus cripts and printed editions) of the work, and of its translations.
