The bottom opening is introduced as a simple and effective junction structure for sewers. Generalized design criteria are derived, based on hydraulic modelling and computations. The computational procedure is presented with examples and the principles of design are discussed. Thus, the hydraulic uncertainties regarding design of new or existing structures are removed.
