The anodic behaviour of a mercury electrode in borate buffer containing 5-fluorouracil (FU) has been studied using different electrochemical techniques. The formation of an insoluble mercury compound is responsible for the observed electrochemical behaviour. At low FU concentration, monolayer adsorption of both reactant and product is observed. As the coverage of the electrode increases from low to high, a transition between two distinct mechanisms involving surface products of different stoichiometry is suggested. At high FU concentration, an electrodeposition process takes place also through a two-dimensional nucleation and growth mechanism complicated by adsorption.

Abstract
The anodic behaviour of a mercury electrode in borate buffer containing 5-fluorouracil (FU) has been studied using different electrochemical techniques. The formation of an insoluble mercury compound is responsible for the observed electrochemical behaviour. At low FU concentration, monolayer adsorption of both reactant and product is observed. As the coverage of the electrode increases from low to high, a transition between two distinct mechanisms involving surface products of different stoichiometry is suggested. At high FU concentration, an electrodeposition process takes place also through a two-dimensional nucleation and growth mechanism complicated by adsorption.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
