The most important earlier studies concerned Basilicata lichen flora were at the beginning of the XIX Century. They are records and collections carried out the main floristic trips in the southern-central Italy of Belgian botanist G. L. Rabenhorst (1850) and naturalist A. Jatta (1874, 1880, 1882, 1885, 1886, 1889). The most interesting records, in Basilicata region, is in the Italian Lichen Flora checklist (Nimis, 1993) with 216 taxa, 10% of National lichen flora. Nevertheless, only from the end of the years '90, specific contributions are realized which lichen flora of Maratea coast (Bartoli et al., 1998) and the check-list of Nimis and Tretiach (1999) with which the species recognized for the regional territory climb to 377. In the last period the lichenological studia on the Basilicata Region are multiplied in the search projects brought in the Laboratory of Environmental and Applied Botany of the University of Basilicata (Fascetti et al., 2005; Puntillo et al., 2003; 2009; Potenza et al., 2005; 2010), bringing to the acquisition of 41 new taxa for the Basilicata. To today the regional lichen flora consists into 516 kinds.
