The reflection and consequent historiographical production on the church of Castellaneta in the tridentine period, often analysed starting from the “visitation documents of the bishops” who succeeded one another in pastoral governance in those years, develops a broader and less lacunar knowledge. This is thanks to the discovery of archival materials that make it possible to reconstruct, in an organized way, the sequence of visits conducted by bishops in the decades preceding and following the celebration of the Synod of Catholic Reform.
