This article explores Josiah Royce’s «absolute pragmatism», focusing on his epistemological and moral holism through the interaction of philosophy and psychology. It examines four key aspects: Royce’s reinterpretation of Kant, Fichte, and Hegel to highlight the construction of a holistic subject within the community; his concept of will as a «selective act», which addresses the problem of the ego’s freedom in relation to the necessity of nature; his engagement with Nietzsche’s subjectivism, through which he seeks to reconstruct objectivity by emphasizing loyalty to the community; and, finally, his dialogue with William James, culminating in an ethics of loyalty oriented toward an open and inclusive community. Therefore, Royce’s philosophy affirms both the mind’s interpretive capacities and the ethics of loyalty as the fulfillment of moral law and a unifying social principle.

Abstract
Therefore, Royce’s philosophy affirms both the mind’s interpretive capacities and the ethics of loyalty as the fulfillment of moral law and a unifying social principle.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
