At the turn of the 19th and 20th century, the introduction of highly resistant and light metal alloys such as aluminium and duralumin played a key role in the development of technological systems applied to the military. Aircraft’s construction and the respective airplane hangars needed speed of construction, as an essential requirement during wartime, made possible by prefabrication and modularity of the assembly stages. Airplane skeletons assembled with steel tube trusses and fuselages made of light aluminium alloys, or hangar doors made of metal alloy elements represent only a small part of the experimentation that was started by the metallurgical industry in the early 1900s, borrowed from the aeronautical sector and experimented in the military architecture.

Abstract
At the turn of the 19th and 20th century, the introduction of highly resistant and light metal alloys such as aluminium and duralumin played a key role in the development of technological systems applied to the military. Aircraft’s construction and the respective airplane hangars needed speed of construction, as an essential requirement during wartime, made possible by prefabrication and modularity of the assembly stages. Airplane skeletons assembled with steel tube trusses and fuselages made of light aluminium alloys, or hangar doors made of metal alloy elements represent only a small part of the experimentation that was started by the metallurgical industry in the early 1900s, borrowed from the aeronautical sector and experimented in the military architecture.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
