The Venice Charter explicitly refers to the revealing goal of the conservation. The disciplinary debate and the-oretical speculations have made this explicit function in the ability to accompany the reading of the work and make people understand its historical and formal values. In the field of architecture ruins represent an extreme condition: on the one hand the primary reason for birth of the discipline of conservation itself, on the other the moment in which the building appears ruined but still recognizable. Ruins produced by decay over time, interrupted ruins, or even intentional ruins: there are different causes of those conditions and so there must be equally different approaches by the conservation. The aim of the contribution is to propose some teaching and applied research experiences on the topic, in order to highlight the possibilities within which the conservation project moves, expressed on the basis of the peculiarities of each building.
