L’architettura del tabacco nella Piana del Sele. Il tabacchificio Fortunato Farina a Battipaglia: caratteristiche costruttive, tecnologiche e stato di conservazione

Between 1921 and 1940, thirteen tobacco factories operated by SAIM (Southern Agricultural Industrial Society) were built in the Piana del Sele in the province of Salerno. These factories, emblems of local industrialization, shared the same cultural and functional framework. The research activity, conducted through published sources and archival material as well as site investigations, contributes to the spread of the culture of conservation of industrial archaeology. The objective is to restore value to the disused production sites through an interdisciplinary methodological approach with different perspectives and scales of analysis. In particular, the work high- lights the key role of understanding building components in the conservation process a a witness of the construction methods and solving the challenges imposed by the functional requirements of production plants featuring experiments, reinterpretations, and new, unexpected dialogues between innovations and construction traditions.
