Abstract

Italian pragmatists' representation of the ego, interpreted as a dynamic reality acting in a social space marked by the end of the grands récits, was developed in an important period of philosophical reflection in Italy. By presenting the now forgotten interdisciplinary journal "Leonardo" (1903-07), in this article I discuss the reception of idealism in its different versions by Papini and Prezzolini, in order to show how both developed an original form of psychological pragmatism, which surprisingly anticipated characteristic themes of the hermeneutics of existence.
