The Ulten zone of the Upper Austroalpine thrust system represents a deep fragment of the Variscan orogen incorporated within the Alpine belt of the Eastern Alps. It consists of high-grade gneisses and migmatites and encloses slices of spinel- and garnet-bearing peridotites. Garnet-peridotites record a composite retrograde path with a former decompressional uplifting, and a latter almost isothermal cooling. Garnet-peridotites were tectonically emplaced during the Variscan collision (360-330 Ma), then they followed the same retrograde P-T path of the enclosing basement, from granulite to amphibolite conditions, within the kyanite stability field.

Abstract
The Ulten zone of the Upper Austroalpine thrust system represents a deep fragment of the Variscan orogen incorporated within the Alpine belt of the Eastern Alps. It consists of high-grade gneisses and migmatites and encloses slices of spinel- and garnet-bearing peridotites. Garnet-peridotites record a composite retrograde path with a former decompressional uplifting, and a latter almost isothermal cooling. Garnet-peridotites were tectonically emplaced during the Variscan collision (360-330 Ma), then they followed the same retrograde P-T path of the enclosing basement, from granulite to amphibolite conditions, within the kyanite stability field.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
