This triumph represented the apex of the monarch’s glory, as he sought to be portrayed in the likeness of an ancient emperor. The court of Alfonso attracted the most erudite intellectuals of that time, hailing from across Italy and Europe, who completely overhauled the system of political consensus-building to align with the new king’s imperial ambitions.
