In this investigation the authors combined the aspects of environmental protection with the increase of road user safety, by designing an innovative coloured draining and noise reducing porous concrete pavement. This running surface has been manufactured by superposing an open matrix concrete layer onto a fibre-reinforced concrete layer made of construction and demolition (C&D) materials, both of them resting upon a granular admixture base. The presence of fibres in the concrete matrix resulted in significant mechanical performances, the life-cycle of the pavement being thus increased.
