Random-amplifiedpolymorphicDNA(RAPD)markerswereusedtoevaluategeneticvariabilityamong populationsofanItalianstrawberryecotype,andtodeterminategeneticrelationshipsbetweengenotypes andtheirputativeancestor.Atotalof65selectionsandonecultivar‘MadameMoutot’(MM),were analysedtoevaluategeneticvariabilitypresentinEtnamountainareaandtoconfirmasMMwasoneof thecultivarsthatoriginatedtheecotype.Atotalof222RAPDmarkerswasobtainedusing16decamer primersand6longerprimers,90.8%ofthemarkersobtainedbyselectedprimersresultedpolymorphicat leastwithinanalysedgenotypes.RAPDswereusedtocalculategeneticsimilaritycoefficientsandtogen- eratedendrogramsrepresentinggeneticrelationshipsamonggenotypesanalysed.Clusteranalysisdisplays asRAPDpolymorphismswereabletocharacterizethegenotypevariabilityamongcloselyrelatedgroups.
