Il Lanital, "Tessuto dell'Impero" e sperimentazione d'avanguardia di un materiale a matrice fibrosa

Lanital is the first fiber manufactured from milk casein. This fiber was produced and marketed by the «Società Nazionale Industria Applicazioni Viscosa», starting from 1935. Lanital found its main application in the field of fashion and interior design (as cover material and for upholstery). Following the government Protectionist Policies, it seems that there have been also some experimentation in the application of this material as insulation for buildings. With the advent of new synthetic materials (especially acrylics), starting after World War II, however this material was eliminated from the trade.
