Abstract

In research on abandoned villages in Basilicata, the integration of historical iconographic and descriptive sources with high-resolution digital geospatial analysis through LiDAR (Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging) and the use of drones is the methodology applied by the CNR IBAM in collaboration with the CNR-IMAA. For over a decade these studies have aimed to understand the causes and modalities of this phenomenon and to the composition of an atlas of abandoned settlements with detailed maps. The present contribution, specifically, presents the results of a study aimed to the reconstruction of the Urbis form and the study of the landscape surrounding the abandoned village of Monte Irsi, in the territory of Irsina (MT), through topographic data obtained with particular visualization techniques.
