The essay proposes a re-reading of the theoretical aspects of the treatise De’ veri precetti della pittura by Giovan Battista Armenini from Faenza, whose editio princeps was licensed in Ravenna by the publisher Francesco Tebaldini in 1586. The test remained entangled in some resistant interpretative labels – which meant it as a purely laboratory book, as a Mannerist or, on the contrary, Counter-reformed treatise –, and it seems to have escaped an analysis of the whole. The inoxidized myth of Michelangelo, the keystone of the artistic thought of Armenini, offers a useful perspective and at the same time a litmus test for reconsidering previous readings.

Abstract
The essay proposes a re-reading of the theoretical aspects of the treatise De’ veri precetti della pittura by Giovan Battista Armenini from Faenza, whose editio princeps was licensed in Ravenna by the publisher Francesco Tebaldini in 1586. The test remained entangled in some resistant interpretative labels – which meant it as a purely laboratory book, as a Mannerist or, on the contrary, Counter-reformed treatise –, and it seems to have escaped an analysis of the whole. The inoxidized myth of Michelangelo, the keystone of the artistic thought of Armenini, offers a useful perspective and at the same time a litmus test for reconsidering previous readings.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
