In 2016 and 2017 the first archaeological research, promoted by the School of Specialisation in Archaeological Heritage of Matera (SSBA-UNIBAS), was carried out at the site of S.M’Anglona. It was part of a landscape archaeology project that has been taking place in the chora of Herakleia over the last few years. The text presents the two initial archaeological excavation campaigns, carried out on the western tip of the hill of Anglona, in correspondence with a fortified structure dating to the Middle Ages. Together we also report on the intrasite survey carried out on the hilly plateau, as well as the geophysical prospections of several sectors of the hill.
