Abstract
At the beginning of the 20th century in Italy it is known that clerics carried out military service with the obligation, in time of war, to respond to the call to arms. On April 12, 1915 the figure of the military chaplain was added to this presence in the army with a decree by General Luigi Cadorna; on June 1, 1915 the Vatican ratified this decision. In the friction between the new Italian unitary state born in 1861 and the Catholic Church, the presence of priests at the front during the first war plays an important role. War helps Catholics to overcome old obstacles and understand the new Italian society. The constitution and action of military chaplains helps these changes.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
