Luigi Pirandello and Angelo Conti in light of an unpublished letter • This article, chronicling the coming of age of the sender and receiver of the letter – so far unpublished –, clearly shows they shared the same fin de siècle literary atmosphere and the same historical and ideological preferences, as partly revealed by their shared penchant for sources associ¬ated with the names of Ruskin, Schopenhauer, Pater, Wagner, Carlyle and Gabriel Séailles. Likewise, Ibsen’s plays are the place where the two leading figures of 20th-century culture ideally meet.

Ripercorrendo le tappe della formazione dei due interlocutori della missiva - finora inedita – risulta chiara la condivisione del clima letterario fin de siécle e la consentaneità teorico-ideologica svelata anche dalla comune predilezione per alcune fonti legate ai nomi di Ruskin, Shopenhauer, Pater, Wagner, Carlyle e Gabriel Séailles. Così come il teatro di Ibsen rappresenta un punto d’incontro ideale per i due interpreti di spicco della sensibilità novecentesca.
