The resurgence of the crumbling ruins of the ninth-century Matrera castle: a critical analysis

The work deals with the complicated challenge of the reintegration of parts lost due to the action of time or to the occurrence of catastrophic events in the restoration of the architectural heritage. This is a topic of great relevance because many monuments for different reasons, first of all the lack of maintenance and the state of complete abandonment, require their partial reconstruction. The work aims to contribute to the debate on the criteria to be pursuit in the cultural heritage conservation through the critical analysis of the controversial restoration of the castle of Matrera located near the town of Villamartin in the province of Cadiz, in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia (Spain).
