Dispersione urbana e mobilità sistematica: una macro-analisi delle città italiane Urban sprawl and commuting mobility: a macro-analysis on Italian cities

Il nesso di causa-effetto fra alcune caratteristiche insediative delle aree urbane e il tipo di mobilità che ne consegue è intuitivo e la ricerca scientifica ha spesso rilevato relazioni statistiche fra i due fenomeni, senza tuttavia arrivare a definire relazioni quantitative di validità generale. Questo studio, con riferimento alla maggior parte delle città italiane capoluogo di provincia, analizza a livello macro possibili relazioni fra alcuni indicatori di dispersione ed alcuni parametri rappresentativi della mobilità urbana e sviluppa delle stime orientative sugli effetti che la variazione degli indicatori territoriali selezionati produrrebbe sulla ripartizione modale, ne valuta le conseguenze in termini di minori emissioni di CO2 e di maggiori ricavi per il trasporto pubblico urbano e propone alcune riflessioni. L’obiettivo principale del lavoro è contribuire ad individuare e quantificare le relazioni esistenti fra dispersione urbana e mobilità sistematica. The cause-effect relationship between certain characteristics of urban settlement areas and the types of mobility that follow is intuitive. Scientific research has often found statistical relationships between the two phenomena but it did not define quantitative relationships of general validity. With regard to the majority of Italian provincial capital cities, this study analyses, at the macro-level, possible relationships between certain sprawl indexes and certain parameters that are representative of urban mobility and develops guideline estimates for the effects that the change of selected territorial indexes would have on transport modal split, assesses the consequences in terms of lower CO2 emissions for the environment and higher revenues for urban public transport, and presents considerations and suggestions. The main goal of this research is to contribute to the understanding of the relationships between urban sprawl and commuting mobility.
