The La.Te.C. (Laboratory of Technology of the Constructions - Faculty of Engineering of the University of the Basilicata) activity has been researching for some years about the use and improvement of the Basilicata forest resources. In particular, the researches have been turned to study the application of methods of thermoigrometric conditioning of lumber of broadleaf tree of the Basilicata, such as the roverella, the beech tree, the chestnut tree, and above all the Quercus Cerris L., that constitutes the big part of the forests of the region, and the 49% of the surface invested to Cerro (turkey oak) on the whole national territory. The usability of Quercus Cerris L. essence for the building and the furnishing constitutes a remarkable technical and economic problem, in as for the actual state on the territory of the Basilicata region exist more than four million cubic meters of relative lumber to trees of tall stem. Planted 60-100 years ago for being used to made wooden sleepers, today serves only as firewood to burn, for the difficulty to use them in building and in furnishing, and this for a series of problems what the normal treatments of industrial desiccation are not able to resolve. The experimentation performed with the present research is developed for direct vaporization already on the tables, through the debugging of a special protocol storm, on tables of cerro, of roverella, of beech tree and of fir (for comparison). The research shows that a treatment of thermoigrometric conditioning it is possible and economically advantageous, to the meantime recovering and valorising a great “sustainable”, “echo-compatible” and “renewable” resource to the economy of the Basilicata region and of the middle-South of Italy, using this resource for particularly refined scope for structural performances, both in restoration and in construction of new buildings.
