In the last decades we have focused in the census and in the study of geological sites in the area of Basilicata, which is characterized by a geological heritage of higher value than many other italian regions. This work is essential to begin now good practices of geoconservation for both geological heritage and geodiversity. The geoconservation is a process that begins by creating awareness among the people living on the territory in order to lead them to become the first guardians of the proper geological heritage and geodiversity. Application of the techniques given by geoconservation protoccols is favoured by the existence of legislative tools necessary to create the basis for sustainable development of both environment and socio-economic . In Basilicata this task is made difficult by the lack of a regional law that favors the ad hoc management of geological heritage. The aim of this work is thus to ask to the Basilicata region to enact without delay a specific regional law on the protection of geological heritage with reference to the draft presented by a scientific partnership (researchers from the Science Department of the University of Basilicata, Legambiente Basilicata, Order of Geologists of Basilicata, Italian Society of Environmental Geology – SIGEA and GeoBas Italy) to the “Commissione Attività Produttive, Territorio e Ambiente del Consiglio Regionale della Basilicata”. An effective regional law is essential tools to work on protection of geodiversity and geoconservation, and is preparatory to the valorisation of all the geological peculiarities present in the region.

Abstract
An effective regional law is essential tools to work on protection of geodiversity and geoconservation, and is preparatory to the valorisation of all the geological peculiarities present in the region.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
