At the present time, much attention is being paid to antioxidant substances because many pathological conditions are associated with oxidative stress. In the present study, the effects of Citrus bergamia juice on glucose consumption, cholesterol, LDL and HDL production, and oxidative stress in human hepatoblastoma cell line HepG-2 were investigated [1]. In hyperglycemic conditions, the Citrus bergamia juice HepG-2 cells treatment significantly decrease the glucose consumption and counteracted the increased of lipid peroxidation and NO production inducted by glucose. Worthy of note treatment with Citrus bergamia juice induced a significant lowered LDL ( < 0.03) and increased HDL medium levels ( < 0.03) recovering the HLD/LDL ratio at about values of the hypoglycemic control cells. These results demonstrate that Citrus bergamia juice play important roles in oxidative stress and antihyperlipidemic modulations inducted by high glucose concentration. In conclusion Citrus bergamia juice might be potentially used for the prevention of the glucose induced postprandial hyperlipidemia [2].
