This paper aims at illustrating the role of Thucydides' history within and in comparison to the traditions of genealogical and historical poetry, logography, and historiography. It also contains a comparison of Herodotus' and Thucydides' prooemia, as well as an analysis of Thucydides' methodological concerns.
