Glycoalkaloids are produced by the plants as natural defence factors against animals, insects and fungi. In vitro and in vivo heart bioassays were performed for studying the physiological effects of plant extracts and metabolites on the insect heart contraction. Glycoalkaloid extracts and isolated metabolites inhibited the contractions of the semi-isolated heart of adult Zophobas atratus beetles. Injections of glycoalcaloid extracts to 1-day old pupae of this insect caused disorders in the heartbeat rhythmicity and changed the frequency and the amplitude of myocardium contractions. Furthermore, the changes in duration of the heart activity phases (anterograde and retrograde) were observed.

Abstract
Furthermore, the changes in duration of the heart activity phases (anterograde and retrograde) were observed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
