In previous studies the seismic vulnerability of some plane frames relevant to existing vertical load designed R/C buildings was evaluated. The frames were representative of mid-rise building types widely present in the Italian building stock constructed in the last 30 years. In the present paper 3-D types representative of real RC buildings made up of some plane frames and considering also low-rise and high-rise structures, are studied. Particularly, to evaluate the major role of masonry infills in the seismic behaviour of vertical load designed R/C buildings, three main building types are examined: buildings without infills (BF type), regularly infilled buildings (IF type) and pilotis buildings (PF type). The seismic response is calculated through non linear dynamic analyses using natural accelerograms relevant to Italian earthquakes. Finally, the damage levels and the vulnerability of each type, according to the European Macroseismic Scale 1998, are evaluated.
