The text is concerning on the outcomes of the research. The research starts by examining the question whether a form of contemporary city exists that can be defined as a coastal city. Such a judgment must largely be based on the imaginary image of a perfect coastline, together with that of tourism enhancement processes seen in the light of cultural phenomena and as the main motor driving the transformations occurring in these territories. This work will focus mainly on reading the processes of transformation of the coastal territories up until the birth of the tourist era, and of the logic underlying the conformation of space. In particular, in the Salentine peninsular territory, the city of Otranto and its territory has been taken as a case study for an in-depth analysis of the coastal landscape and its changes in relation to natural factors, settlement processes and especially the spread of tourism.
