Abstract

The characteristics of Oria’s territory (Brindisi) that so much fascinate the tourist, principally depend on the geological and geo-morphological events responsible for its formation. The geological and naturalistic peculiarities, properly improved, may represent a real reference from a scientific, popular and touristic point of view, for the surrounding territories. Oria’s territory looks particularly reach being spotted, along the dune cordon generated by aeolian accumulation during one of the presence phase of the post-Calabrian sea, of sites and landscapes of geological and geo-morphological interest, significant for the understanding of the region geological history. In addition, the geo-morphological and hydro-geological peculiarity of Oria’s territory, compared to the surrounding plain, has been a point of attraction for historic and prehistoric human settlements, whose traces are still visible on the territory (necropolis, villages, etc.). An important aspect to highlight in this study is the relationship between the environment and the archaeological, historical and architectonic cultural goods, etc, or generally speaking between these and the entire landscape context in which they are.For this purpose, two panoramic paths have been traced to reach the geo-sites identified along the Pleistocene dune cordon of Oria (late Calabrian, end of lower Pleistocene and pre-Tirrenian, beginning of upper Pleistocene) using a innovativemethod that defines the characteristics of these site by means of an information spreadsheet implemented into a Geographic Information System (GIS)
