Mutilations par voie de justice à Byzance. L’ablation du nez dans l’Eklogè de Léon III l’Isaurien

The paper examines one of the penal mutilations adopted by the Ecloge ton nomon of Leon III the Isaurian: the amputation of the nose. It analyses the history of this mutilation, both within and beyond the penal context, and its anthropological and social meaning. Il contributo analizza una delle mutilazioni penali adottate dall’Ecloge ton nomon di Leone III Isaurico, il taglio del naso. Della mutilazione, si ricostruisce la storia, all’interno ed all’esterno dell’ambito penale, ed il significato antropologico e sociale.
