The contribution, organized in two paragraphs, analyzes the history of architecture, the question of style and the theme of language, in a broad national reference framework, trying to focus on themes and methodologies that influence Sante Simone’s work. Reference is made to the composite nature of his professional identity which sees him as the protagonist of interventions as a restorer, designer of public and private buildings, as an official responsible for the protection of cultural heritage, and as a historiographer of the places and historical architectural heritage of Puglia. In this theoretical context, Simone demonstrates a convinced adherence to what is discussed at a national level, both in relation to the definition of an identifying style, in the Apulian case Romanic Style, and in relation to a practice that follows stylistic restoration. At an advanced stage of his professional activity, his contributions to public and private building typologies appear more eclectic. Together with his historiographic production, with the Dizionario Simone also experiments with a genre that contributes to explaining the transformations of the discipline of architecture, the scope of its knowledge, the role of historiography and that of drawing, along the epistemological passage characterized by eclecticism nineteenth century.
