The global rise in interest in insect protein, particularly from Hermetia illucens, has prompted advancements in both regulatory frameworks and farming systems to meet the challenges of food security and sustainability. The regulatory landscape, led by the European Union, ensures the safety, quality, and traceability of insect-based products through comprehensive food and feed laws, including hazard analysis and critical control points principles and environmental protections. Simultaneously, advancements in farming methods have transitioned from traditional labor-intensive systems to modern automated technologies. Automated systems integrate IoT sensors, precise environmental controls, and mechanized processes to enhance efficiency, scalability, and productivity. These innovations not only reduce resource dependency but also improve waste management by converting organic materials into high-value protein and byproducts. Despite progress, challenges such as consumer acceptance, regulatory harmonization, and accessibility for small-scale farmers remain. However, with sustained investment, innovation, and education, black soldier fly farming is poised to play a transformative role in sustainable agriculture and circular economies globally.

Abstract
However, with sustained investment, innovation, and education, black soldier fly farming is poised to play a transformative role in sustainable agriculture and circular economies globally.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
