Fragility curves (FCs) are a probabilistic tool worldwide adopted in large-scale seismic risk analyses. In order to properly derive FCs from non-linear dynamic analyses, several aspects need to be faced, among which the selection of a suitable set of signals able to reach the considered damage states. Although several databases of recorded (real) signals are available, they generally lack high intensity accelerograms to attain the most severe damage states (e.g. collapse). A promising way to overcome this shortcoming is to use ground motions generated through physics-based numerical simulations. In this paper, a dataset of near-source broadband earthquake ground motions from 3D physics-based numerical simulations named BB-SPEEDset is considered to derive FCs for a set of reinforced concrete (RC) prototypes representative of the Italian existing buildings designed only to vertical loads, by varying different typological parameters (e.g. number of storeys, periods etc). The derived FCs are analysed and compared with the corresponding ones obtained from real signals in order to test their inherent reliability.
