In the paper the assessment of expeditious seismic risk at territorial level of the historical center of Cosenza city is described. The simplified methodology followed was developed by Tuscany region (Italy) in 2019. Cosenza is a city located in Southern Italy, in Calabria Region, consisting of two parts: the modern area and the historical area. The latter is characterized by masonry buildings of different ages and types, averaging no more than three or four stories. Unfortunately, over time, this area has been progressively abandoned by the population, who have preferred to move to the modern area, leading to the progressive deterioration of some districts (i.e. Santa Lucia), considering also the high seismic hazard of the city. With the aim of reevaluating the historical center of Cosenza from a touristic point of view, mitigating then its seismic risk, it has been involved among some selected case studies within the Italian Project GENESIS “Seismic risk manaGEmeNt for the touristic valorization of thE hiStorIcal centers of Southern Italy”, within which, considering the large size of the historic center of Cosenza, it is analyzed at territorial level. The simplified methodology adopted implies the use of census data and allows obtaining a final Risk Class ‘R’ expressed by the Indicator of Risk ‘IR’, given by the sum of the other indicators depending by Hazard (H), Vulnerability (V) and Exposure (E).
