This first volume of the Epistolario collects correspondence from the five-year period 1886-1890. A vast and varied harvest of letters, postcards and telegrams relating to the formative years spent by the then young student between Palermo, Rome and Bonn. Indispensable documents to retrace the various stages of Pirandello's apprenticeship and auroral literary production, through the dialogue that the still-behind-the-ears author entertained daily with an 'audience' of patient readers, such as family and friends, privileged recipients of the missives of these years. Chronologically ordered tesserae that, when read sequentially, make it possible to follow the stages of the poet, storyteller and future playwright's life and art journey.

Questo primo volume dell’Epistolario raccoglie la corrispondenza del quinquennio 1886-1890. Una vasta e variegata messe di lettere, cartoline e telegrammi relativa agli anni della formazione, trascorsi dall’allora giovane studente tra Palermo, Roma e Bonn. Documenti indispensabili per ripercorrere le varie fasi dell’apprendistato e dell’aurorale produzione letteraria di Pirandello, attraverso il dialogo che l’autore ancora imberbe intrattiene quotidianamente con un ‘pubblico’ di pazienti lettori, quali famigliari e amici, privilegiati destinatari delle missive di questi anni. Tessere ordinate cronologicamente che, se lette in maniera sequenziale, consentono di seguire le tappe del percorso di vita e di arte del poeta, del narratore e del futuro drammaturgo.
