From Augusta Praetoria to Aosta. Urban transformations in Early Middle Ages. Augusta Praetoria (Aosta) was a colony founded by Romans in 25 BC. Among all the principal monuments well conserved, the wall and the entrances (Porta Praetoria, Porta Decumana, Porta Principalis Sinistra) are the areas that vielved exemples of a new occupation of public spaces during the post-classical period. It is possible to find the same new way of living also in the northwest sector of the roman city, where was located the Amphiteatre: here the archeological investigations illustrate remains of private dwellings construct in support of the roman building. The most interesting area is the centre of the roman colony where was located the twin temples built in the north part of the Forum and where was construct the Cathedral, dated from the IV century. In this part of the city it is possible to follow the same important changes connected with new social and economonic dynamics dated from the end of the IV century until the beginning of the VI century.
