The interpretation of the concept of sustainable development has long been a concern for urban planning cultures and project. It seems to depend not only on the nature of the phenomena, but mainly on the level of awareness of political power on local and global environmental issues, and on the ability of the professions involved to find compatible solutions and the urgency to provide answers. Sustainable development, rather than a promising ideology, increasingly represents a context of global crisis in which the responses of professions capable of directing action and giving a pragmatic dimension to sustainability are placed.

Abstract

The interpretation of the concept of sustainable development has long been a concern for urban planning cultures and project. It seems to depend not only on the nature of the phenomena, but mainly on the level of awareness of political power on local and global environmental issues, and on the ability of the professions involved to find compatible solutions and the urgency to provide answers. Sustainable development, rather than a promising ideology, increasingly represents a context of global crisis in which the responses of professions capable of directing action and giving a pragmatic dimension to sustainability are placed.
