Humeomics is a sequential chemical fractionation that uses in the order organic solvent extraction, transesterification with boron trifluoride in methanol, methanolic alkaline hydrolysis, cleavage of ether and glycosidic bonds with HI, and final alkaline extraction. The Humeomic procedure was applied directly on a Maize and a Wheat cropped soil and revealed a series of soil organic matter (SOM) fractions. Gravimetric analysis revealed a significantly larger ratio of organosoluble vs hydrosoluble components in the maize cropped soil. Thus, humeomics fractionation can differentiate humic molecules even after only one year of cultivation.
