Girolamo Ruscelli and Ludovico Dolce are, as is known, two key figures of Venetian publishing in the mid-16th century. Even if their rivalry centered mainly on the illustrated prints of the Orlando Furioso, it is interesting that both (Dolce with the printer Giolito and Ruscelli with the printer Pietrasanta) edited Petrarch's Canzoniere in 1554. The paper compares the editorial, philological and paratextual aspects of the two editions, considering the competitive strategies implemented by the two rivals.

Abstract
Girolamo Ruscelli and Ludovico Dolce are, as is known, two key figures of Venetian publishing in the mid-16th century. Even if their rivalry centered mainly on the illustrated prints of the Orlando Furioso, it is interesting that both (Dolce with the printer Giolito and Ruscelli with the printer Pietrasanta) edited Petrarch's Canzoniere in 1554. The paper compares the editorial, philological and paratextual aspects of the two editions, considering the competitive strategies implemented by the two rivals.File in questo prodotto:
