Abstract

Curved Surface Sliders (CSS) is the European name for seismic isolators based on the simple pendulum principle. This document describes a numerical model, defined using OpenSees, in order to represent the nonlinear behavior of the device beyond the maximum displacement set out by the manufacturer. An over stroke displacement capacity was experimentally verified on double concave CSS by means of displacement controlled tests. The numerical model is able to simulate the actual failure condition due to a loss of gravity loads support capability.
