Dunes are common large-scale bedforms in sand-bed rivers that can affect significantly the hydraulic roughness and water levels. Here ongoing investigations on the evolution of river dunes are briefly de- scribed. The spatial and temporal development of solitary sand dunes is currently investigated at laboratory scale.
