Among personal and collective memory, testimonies of life, essays and novels, this paper deals with the 1980 Irpinia earthquake, a natural event that devastated the places of Francesco De Sanctis’s childhood and "electoral journey". Beginning from the testimonies and the memoirs of those people that experienced directly the evening of 23rd November in Campania and Basilicata, the essay reflects on the relationship between the life and the news, the memory and the history, the reality and the literature.
