Abstract

The concept of architecture is the crossing of a space that becomes physically visible when one enters the space itself. Space indicates a dimension that is so large as to contain everything, so much so that it becomes elusive. With the culture of architecture, we can bring together things and the world, the near and the far, the great and the small, the above and the below. For the simple reason that for now, with architecture, we enter the space. It seems a trivial point to remember. But how many and which architects have managed to affirm this fundamental role that architecture holds compared to other human activities? After Scarpa, very few. Before Scarpa, many. In Brion Cemetery by Carlo Scarpa, architecture thus becomes an art form which helps us to overcome the absence of life by expanding the horizon of our minds and hearts, freeing us from our bodies, giving dignity to the void left by the loss of living presences and emotional ties. The garden of Onorina and Giuseppe Brion is open to all, as a gift. A gift which asks for nothing in return, and which offers a new world to all.
