Abstract

An extensive experimental seismic testing programme, named JETBIS (Joint Experimental Testing of Base Isolation Systems) project, has been developed and studied within the RELUIS 2010-2013 and RELUIS 2014 projects, involving partners from different Italian universities. This paper presents the performances of Double Concave Friction Pendulum (DCFP) bearings considering different conditions of sliding surfaces evaluated by shaking table tests performed on a 2 DOF steel framed model. The main goal of this work is the study of the effectiveness of nonlinear modelling for the evaluation of the seismic response of the base isolation system also when initial residual displacements due to previous earthquakes are present. In the paper is shown the comparison between the results of experimental and nonlinear time history analysis, carried out by using CDS OpenSees and SAP 2000 programs. Numerical modelling of force-displacement behaviour of the DCFP bearing focusing on the influence on the friction coefficient of the sliding velocity and of the vertical load.
