Abstract

This paper shows the influence of Aristotle’s Ethics on Decameron, V 9. In the narrative perspective, the intertextual interplay shapes some relevant features of the plot, and in particular the behavior of the main character, Federigo degli Alberighi. From a thematic point of view, Boccaccio uses Aristotle’s and Aquinas’ theories on passion and virtues for rethinking the ideal of amour courtois.
