In this work, a 3-D matrix model of the classical Langevin transducer is evaluated and experimentally validated. A comparison between the frequency spectrum computed with this model and with a classical 1-D model is shown. It shows that the 3-D approach allows to predict the unwanted radial modes of the piezoceramic disk and of the masses, and also the coupling of these with the thickness-extensional modes. In order to experimentally validate the model, two sets of 13 pairs of loading masses, of increasing thickness, were manufactured. By sandwiching a piezoceramic disk between each pair of masses, we measured the experimental frequency spectrum, with and without pre-stressing the structure, and compared it with the computed results, finding a quite good agreement.
