The films obtained by ultra-short pulsed laser deposition of a target of molybdenum carbide, at different substrate temperatures, have been characterized by different techniques, including scanning electron microscopy, micro-Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results indicate that the films are formed by a large number of particles with nanomentric dimensions and are composed mainly of Mo2C. The presence of an excess of carbon, found in the films, is probably due the presence of a certain amount of graphite in the target.

Abstract

The films obtained by ultra-short pulsed laser deposition of a target of molybdenum carbide, at different substrate temperatures, have been characterized by different techniques, including scanning electron microscopy, micro-Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results indicate that the films are formed by a large number of particles with nanomentric dimensions and are composed mainly of Mo2C. The presence of an excess of carbon, found in the films, is probably due the presence of a certain amount of graphite in the target.
