Burkholderia species are widely distributed in natural environment being present in the soil, water and plant rhizosphere. Customarily, Burkholderia species are plant pathogens, but some have been studied as biocontrol agent of plant diseases. Particularly, among these, strains of B. gladioli possess a great potentiality as plant pathogen antagonists. Indeed many Burkholderia spp. have the ability to produce in vitro secondary metabolites with relevant biological activities. This study shows, with the aim to use those substances as biopesticides, the determination of bioactive secondary metabolites produced by Burkholderia gladioli pv. agaricicola (Bga ICMP 11096) and the absence of these compounds in AHLs- deficient mutant. Analyses were carried out by using HPLC –DAD.
